Diary of a Tolkien Fiend
Taking some time out from downloading porn
to post this extremely important blog entry. *
sigh* I'm so used to
MySpace now that I almost wrote "post a new blog". <rant>What the heck is with that anyway, Tom? The word "blog" refers to the entire blog, not each individual post. It's short for
Weblog, get it, you young whippersnapper? You don't "post a blog" you post
to a blog. Sheesh!</rant>
Anyway, the new official URL for my dark Tolkien fansite,
The Black Gate is
Black-Gate.net. In the near future, all traffic to Lugburz.com will be re-routed to the
Lugburz message board.
Holy shit, I'm back
Yes, I'm back in black, and blacker than ever. ;) I've decided to resurrect my message board, Lugburz.yuku.com. Go register an account (if necessary) and post something, ye bastard sons and daughters!
Shadow of the Past
Long ago I had a thriving
message board... well, thriving is a relative term. But then it died a long, slow gasping death. The final blow came when someone launched an attack on the message board service I was using which caused most of our posts to be deleted. But luckily, I had foreseen such a catastrophe and saved many of my favourite threads to my hard drive. Anyway, a couple of months ago I uploaded some of them to
Lugburz.com in case anyone was interested in reading them:
Shadow of the Past
And now this: An Excellent LotR/MST Parody
From
Cuddle Me - LotR MST/Parody:
Here's a very funny slash parody in which characters from The Lord of the Rings movies comment MST-style on a story involving Van Helsing and his lovelorn sidekick, Faramir-as-Carl...
Full Moon RisingThere are other LotR MST/parodies on that site of course, but I haven't had a chance to read them yet.
Kontraband
I was bored the other day so I started looking for I don't even remember what, and I came across
this site. I'd actually been to it before but forgot all about it. There's a lot of stuff there that isn't worth the time it takes to download, but it's such a huge site, that's bound to happen. Besides, the more files the site has the greater the chance that you'll find something that makes all the searching worthwhile. Here are some good ones I came across:
Harry the Hamster (ROFLMAO)*
Beatboxing Bush (LOL)
LadipididaddaZaZapZap (oddly fascinating)
I also found this one from
Albino Black Sheep which is just plain wacky:
James BondSpeaking of Albino Black Sheep, here's a cool LotR-themed musical Flash movie that I found a while back and meant to post a link to but forgot:
They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard* If you have trouble downloading this clip you can see it
here; it seems to load faster but the resolution is not as good (probably for the same reason that it loads faster).
Once again this blog has been severely neglected...
I find it amazing that people actually still come here and even leave the occasional comment! Keep it up and you may actually tempt me to come back and post more often.
Anyway, as promised, here is an update on the King of Men ring I bought on
eBay. It's even better than it looks in the pictures! I'm sure the stone must vary, but in all the pictures it's bright red, so it almost looks like glass. I didn't really like that about it, which was partly why I resisted ordering it at first. But they must have been shining a light on it or from behind it or something when they took that photo, because in reality the stone (at least on my ring) is closer to the colour of raw meat. I love it! Of course, some people might think that the slightly duller stone is so different from the one in the picture as to constitute false advertising, and I can't say I wouldn't blame them. But I for one am pleased with my purchase, and of course the seller on eBay can't be blamed for using the same picture that all the vendors used, which I assume comes from the manufacturer. So of course I left positive feedback for the seller.
I like this ring even better than the silver replica of the One Ring that I wear on my right ring finger (I bought that at the
New York Renaissance Faire a few years back, but haven't seen another one quite like it since), which was the only ring I'd ever worn until now. At first I wore the King of Men ring on my right index finger, but then I decided it detracted too much from the simple elegance of the One Ring, so I've taken to wearing it on my left index finger instead.
Speaking of the New York Ren Faire, I had a great time at the Blue Boar Inn last weekend. It's a new tavern that opened at the Faire this year, where lovely tavern wenches bring you your beer or mead while you watch great performances by the likes of Fillip Hole, the Reelies, the Crimson Pirates, and the Wench Singers. Regrettably, I missed the performances this time around, but I will be sure to catch (most of) them this weekend, when I will be celebrating my 35th birthday (which was actually yesterday, but the Ren Faire is only open on the weekends). Huzzah!

King of Men Ring discontinued
For a while now I've been considering getting the King of Men Ring, but kept putting it off. But recently I came across a couple of sites which listed my birthstone as carnelian, and because the pictures of this gemstone resembled the stone set in the King of Men Ring, I thought it might be the same stone. So I googled 'King of Men Ring' and Tolkientown came up... this is becoming my favourite site... and sure enough, it said the stone was natural carnelian. But to my dismay, it also said that this ring has been discontinued by the manufacturer! All sizes except 11, which is a little too big for me, are sold out. Luckily, however, I found a size 10 on eBay with a Buy It Now option (condition new). So I've ordered it... I hope it's as nice as it looks in the pictures. Rest assured, I will let you know.
